There are a lot of mountainous areas in the United States with most in Alaska. Mountains play a lot of roles. Whiles some serve as tourist attractions, others are sources of water and other precious minerals, etc. Now, let’s take some time to look at some of the tallest mountains in the USA.
Denali – Alaska
Denali is the highest mountain in the United States and is based in Alaska It has a summit elevation about of 20,310 feet (6,190 m) above sea level. It is the highest mountain in North America.
Denali is also the centerpiece of Denali National Park and Preserve. It is also one of the third most isolated mountains in the world after Mount Everest and Aconcagua.
Mount Saint Elias – Alaska Yukon
The second tallest mountain in the USA is also located on the United States and Canada border. It stands on the Yukon and Alaska border with the US side of the mountain located within Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. It is the second-highest mountain with an elevation of about 18,009 feet (5,489 meters).
Mount Saint Elias is located near Glacier Bay which has a high density of glaciers and icefields.
Mount Foraker – Alaska
The third highest peak in the United States is also located in Alaska with an elevation of about 17,400 feet (5304 meters). From Mount Foraker, Denali can be spotted.
Mount Bona – Alaska
The fourth tallest Mountain in the US is also located in the Saint Elias Mountains in eastern Alaska. It was formed from a volcanic activity that is currently dormant. It has an elevation of about 16,550 feet (5,040 meters).
Mount Blackburn – Alaska
The last mountain on our list is also located in Alaska. It is also about 16,390 feet (4996 meters) in elevation. Mountain Blackburn is also the main source of ice that flows into Kennicott. Mountain Blackburn is also a factor in the Nabesna Glacier and the Kuskulana Glacier.
