1. Famous Towers: Eiffel Tower

Eiffel Tower is by a distant, the most famous tower in the world. Located in the French capital of Paris, this tower is one of the most visited places in Europe.

Eiffel Tower is a symbol of Paris and France which was built by Gustave Eiffel, the man after which the tower was named. It was built as the entrance arch for the International Exhibition of Paris of 1889.

With a height of 300 meters (984 feet) Eiffel Tower was the tallest tower in the world until 1930, when the Chrysler Building in New York was completed.

You won’t struggle to understand just how famous this tower is as more than 200,000,000 people have visited the site on various occasions just to catch a glimse of the tower.

The Eiffel Tower is believed to be the most visited paid monument in the world.

2. Leaning Tower of Pisa

This famous tower is one of the famous towers in the world that took perhaps a longer period of time to build as it spanned some 177 years before it was completed.

The tower took that long to complete mainly because a poorly laid foundation made it sink causing it to be left for years before it was revisited.

When the construction resumed the engineers built higher floors with one side taller than the other to compensate for the tilt and the tower was finally finished in the 2nd half of the 14th century. Since 2001, the famous tower in Pisa is again open to those wishing to climb it’s 296 steps.

Big Ben is one of the world’s famous towers in the city of London in the UK.

It is a clock tower known as the Big Ben Clock Tower that attracts a lot of visitors.

The Big Ben Clock Tower is the 3th largest free-standing clock tower in the world.

The Big Ben Clock Tower is over a hundred and fifty years old now since its construction.

4. San Gimignano: Famous towers

Nicknamed the medieval Manhatten, San Gimignano is a village in Tuscany famous for its 14 stone towers.

At the height of San Gimignano’s wealth and power, more than 70 towers were built to defend the town against enemy attacks.

After the plague devastated the city in 1348, San Gimignano’s power faded, which kept enemies away and preserved many of the city’s famous towers.

5. Three Pagodas

The Three Pagodas are one of the best preserved Buddhist structures in China having endured several man-made and natural catastrophes and it is easily one of the famous towers in the world.

The middle pagoda, built during 824-840 AD by king Quan Fengyou, is 69.6 meters (227 feet) high and is one of the tallest pagodas in China.

The other two pagodas are built about a century later and are 42.19 meters (140 feet) high.
